What is a BCBS Medicare Reimbursement Account?

If you’re enrolled in Medicare, you may receive a reimbursement via the Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) reimbursement account. Let’s take a closer look at how it works and what you need to do to get reimbursed.

How Does a Medicare Reimbursement Account Work Through BCBS?

While Medicare Part A is free for most people, Part B requires a premium. If you have Medicare Part and B, you may be eligible for up to $800 through a Medicare Reimbursement Account. You can use the money you receive to cover bills, pay down debt, go on vacation, or anything else you’d like. It can also be a great way to add some cushion to your bank account.

How Do You Get My Medicare Reimbursement?

Fortunately, the process to get your Medicare reimbursement is fairly straightforward. You’ll have to submit a claim online, by fax, via mail, or through the EZ Receipts app. Here are a few details of each option:

Online: You’ll need to register for your MRA account at fepblue.org/mra. You’ll be asked for your 4 digit code, which is your day of birth and your day of birth and the last 2 digits of your Social Security number.
Fax or Mail: To submit your claim via fax or mail, download the form at fepblue.org/mra. You’ll need separate forms for your spouse and dependents. Fax them to 877-353-9236 or mail them to P.O. Box 14053 Lexington, KY 40512.
App: Download the EZ Receipts app on the App Store or Google Play Store. You can get 24/7 access to account alerts and updates.

While you can choose the method that you feel the most comfortable with, keep in mind that every option will ask you to submit documents that confirm you paid your Medicare Part B premium. We recommend you use any of the following documents to do so:

  • Copy of your credit card or bank statement
  • A Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) statement
  • A canceled check

Regardless of which document you select, make sure it includes the date of payment, the provider name which is Medicare in this situation, detailed description, proof of payment, and your name.

How Long Does Reimbursement Take?

Fortunately, you won’t have to wait long to receive your reimbursement. Most online and app claims will be reviewed a few days after they’ve been received. Note that claims that are received via fax or mail will take longer, usually up to 10 days. Upon approval, you’ll get reimbursed via direct deposit. It all depends on your preference and how you set up your account. You can submit your reimbursement claim any time until December 31st of the following benefit year.
