If you’d like to save money on your insurance premiums and out-of-pocket expenses, you may be able to do so through Obamacare subsidies. If your household income is less than 400% of the Federal Poverty Level, you may be eligible for a subsidy. Your income must be between $28,780 and $115,120 if you have a household of five and would like to receive a subsidy.
In the event you have access to health insurance through your employer or are eligible for Medicaid, Medicaid, or CHIP, you will not qualify for this program. It’s important to note that if you do qualify and your income changes, you should report it so that your subsidies can be properly adjusted. If your income decreases, you may qualify for bigger subsidies. However, if it increases, you may be able to save yourself from having to repay your subsidies.
The IRS considers your household as you and your spouse, your children who live with you, any dependents on your tax return even if they do not live with you, anyone under the age of 21 who lives with you and cares for you, and your unmarried partner if they are the parent of your child or depend on you for tax purposes.
